Change Maker for Women’s Rights: Emily Stowe

Emily Stowe was a doctor and suffragette. She was born on May 1st, 1831, and died on April 30th, 1903. She came from a well-established family of leaders and farmers. She had faced many inequalities in her lifetime on her journey towards her career. Later on, she had been part of Toronto’s Women Literary Club which became the Canadian Women Suffrage Association and Dominion Women’s Enfranchisement Association, which had fought for the many rights of women. The work she had done back in her time had a big impact on the educational, voting, and property rights of women then. She has also influenced the educational, property, and voting rights of the women of today and has had a big impact on Canadian Women today. She is a pioneer in Canada who has fought for the rights of women then and now.
Emily Murphy The First Women Magistrate

Emily Murphy was the leader of the Famous Five, made up of five women activists. They all fought against the Supreme of Canada For a decade about the Persons Case and for women to have the right to sit in the Senate. Later that would be changed by the Privy Judicial Council. Emily Murphy alone fought for women’s property right and won. Overall Emily Murphy has a big impact and legacy on Canada today.

I researched James Naismith because I love sports and I wanted to learn about basketball and sports because I knew I would take an interest in it. James Naismith had a lot of resources which made it easy to find information and interesting facts.
Francis Peghamagabow

He is an indigenous war veteran and indigenous activist. I chose him because I have always been interested in WWI. I think he’s really cool because despite being discriminated against he managed to become the best sniper in all of WW1.
Sir Oliver Mowat

Oliver Mowat was important because he was a key person involved in bringing together the British colonies to form a new nation, Canada. His interest in law and politics contributed to his involvement in the Canadian government. Using his networks in politics he was able to represent his community and country’s interests serving as Ontario’s third premier. He is remembered and honored with schools, monuments, and history as an influential politician in Canada’s history.
Tom Thomson

Growing up I always heard stories about my grandpa and this amazing painter that he loved and took inspiration from, but I didn’t know who he was. When searching for people to do my project on, I came across the name Tom Thomson and immediately knew that I had to pick him so that I could learn more about who he was and what he did. Tom Thomson is one of the most well known painters in Canada and he was my grandpa’s favorite.
